Want to know more?
The name Latitude is taken from a terrestrial globe and speaks to the cosmopolitan nature of discovery and venturing beyond the known.
The geometric pattern is achieved through a method called “diamond cut” in which patterns are made with a diamond tipped engraving bit.
Tsubota Pearl took the unusual approach of employing this technique used for jewelry and the ornamentation of metal, and applied it to polycarbonate.
The effect is simultaneously luxurious and utilitarian, carrying a sense of ease. Handcrafted from beginning to end in Tokyo.
To fill:
- Pull the inner lighter out from the polycarbonate case.
- Turn it over.
- Soak the cotton throughly with lighter fluid.*
- Place the inner lighter back into the polycarbonate case.
- Spark the lighter 5-10 times.
- Once the lighter sparks a flame, the lighter should light consistently after that.
- If sparking 5-10 times does not create a flame, wait one minute and soak the cotton with fluid for another five seconds or so. Repeat sparking the lighter until the first flame appears.
Generally, getting a lighter going the first time requires more work because the cotton is dry and needs to be evenly and fully soaked with lighter fluid. Each subsequent refill should be a quicker and smoother process.
*Use high quality lighter fluid like Ronsonol or Zippo.
Established in 1952 as a metal and leather working company, Tsubota Pearl makes all their components in specialized workshops in and around the Asakusa area of Tokyo. Their distinguished, minimalistic, and unique lighters have become a staple of Japanese craftsmanship.
